“Writer-director Steve Hicks is a definite talent…” | Fuzz Track City

“”Fuzz Track City” may not have had me rolling on the floor but it has a subtle brilliance to both the comedy and the story. It has such a mild-mannered presence that it could feel like it’s lacking something but it’s that subtlety that pushes the movie forward. It’s very easy to go back to again and again and still be highly entertaining and enjoyable — I know, I’ve watched about half a dozen times already and enjoyed equally each time. Actually, I enjoyed it more with each viewing and finding more to appreciate about the movie. Steve Hicks managed to take the structure and tropes of a noir movie, drop them into a ’70s detective show but present it as a modern movie.”
Preston, FilmBizarro.com

“Frankly, it’s enjoyable to watch a film that fits into a genre, that isn’t just excellent with camerawork or expressionist lighting. Everything is well done in this flick. It’s damn professional, making us forget that this wasn’t a big budget film packed with slick crap and a mega marketing campaign. I was not only blown away by the performances, but a many other artistic and technical elements. However, before anything else, I must admit that the level of dialogue in the story sincerely impressed me: the quality of the writing was excellent, something even well-known filmmakers often have a problem with. Everything is helped along by excellent editing, creating a cool rhythm to the proceedings, which are humorous, but also contain serious elements dealing with life, friendship, death, obsession and commitment.”
Dane Marti,  We Are Movie Geeks

“Fuzz Track City introduces a number of serious talents. Mr Anderson’s lead in some ways follows the Jeff Bridges model in The Big Lebowski – Ms Pouncy, easy on the eyes, also has a polite way of making herself the most interesting thing in some very interesting shots. Cinematographer Johnny Derango took those pretty pictures, that promises a busy future for him. And the funk-soul band Stedapol C.C. Watt contributes four songs that should stick a pin on the music map – None of these finds is more fascinating than the central figure of Mr. Hicks. His sense of frame and of frame progression organically inform his narrative, compelling the eye like a pinball around the ramps of story. Steve Hicks is about to get popular!”
Jason Rohrer, Stage and Cinema

“Technically, this movie is lovely… This is an impressive first feature and is an extremely enjoyable film. Frankly, it’s exactly the kind of picture that turns heads at festivals.
So, go see it and let it turn yours.”
Leah Gehlsen Morlan, Landlocked Film Festival

“Fuzz Track City, from writer/director Steve Hicks, is an entertaining neo-noir that utilizes the conventions of the genre in a playful manner. Style-wise, the film apes the look and feel of a ’70s cop show, if the show existed within the environment of today. Edit-styles, title graphics and other stylistic choices all fit that throwback feel, even if all the characters and settings do not. Which is interesting, because the mixture of old and new is pretty smooth to the point where, if people weren’t pointing out how absurd Dunn carries himself, I’d just think he was another Los Angeleno with a unique sense of style. The film excels and is worth taking a look. “

Mark Olsen, FilmThreat

“Here’s what Steve Hicks’ neo-noir indie Fuzz Track City has going for it: It views the conceits and comforting clichés of old-fashioned, hard-boiled detective stories through the lens of sophisticated rock snobbery. Hicks seems to have, in his own way, a real style. And sometimes, a little bit of style can go a long way.”
William Bibbiani, Crave

“Todd Robert Anderson is rather engaging as the shaggy dog detective, playing the born-loser part scrupulously straight.”
J.B. Spins

“As he toys with the tropes of detective fiction, filmmaker Hicks takes us on a leisurely journey through the San Fernando Valley that finally crescendos into an uproarious climax.  It’s a fun ride.”
The Movie Gourmet

Dane Marti, We Are Movie Geeks

“The darkly comic story of shaggy P.I. Murphy Dunn (Todd Robert Anderson), an anachronistic loser trying to get his mojo back by tracking down the son of the guidance counselor he had a crush on twenty years ago (Dee Wallace), Fuzz explores several Los Angeles underworlds.”
Jason Rohrer, Stage and Cinema

“When I began writing Fuzz Track City, I made a list of things that I wanted the movie to have in it.  I knew I wanted a 70’s vibe, an old school private eye protagonist and a lot of great music.  I was listening to a lot of 70’s rock while writing and it dawned on me to make the music in the movie part of the story.  To make one of the main characters a  ‘guitar god’ a (Zack Lee) just seemed like a perfect fit.  A hard rock mystery was something I hadn’t seen before.”
Thriller Chiller interview with Director Steve Hicks

“I live in the San Fernando Valley (area code 818) in Los Angeles County and I wanted to celebrate/exploit the valley’s locale.  Personally, I find so much solace and inspiration in The Valley and I wanted to add my cinematic two bits into the mix.”
The Movie Gourmet Interview with Director Steve Hicks

“I started writing in 2005 after watching David Lynch’s WILD AT HEART. For whatever reason that movie rekindled my love of film noir and the detective genre.”
Mondo Film And Podcast Interview with Director Steve Hicks

“I enjoyed it, I thought it was creative and well done.”
