“Stylish…If “True Romance” is the gonzo extreme of the Noir genre, “Undoing” is more of a cool mood piece…”
• Variety
“stylish, character-driven neo-noir set on the mean streets of Los Angeles’ Koreatown starring Sung Kang (The Fast and the Furious 3) and Kelly Hu (“X-Men 2,” “Scorpion King”).”
• AsianAmericanFilm.com
“Chris Chan Lee’s film noir Undoing, spotlighted rising star Sung Kang (Better Luck Tomorrow, The Motel) as an aimless young tough in way over his head against crooked cops and various mobsters. An atmospheric grafting of Hong Kong action stylistics onto the L.A. cityscape, the film benefits from its assured feel for the streets of Los Angeles, putting its Koreatown setting and Asian-American characters firmly within the traditions of both genres.”
Jason Sanders • Filmmaker Magazine
“An energetic, visually stunning and absorbing neo noir about a Korean American gangster…”
G. Allen Johnson • SF Chronicle
“In Undoing, Chris Chan Lee takes up where Raymond Chandler left off…and turns the bowels of Los Angeles into a stage for a noirish meditation on the nature of good and evil. ”
Julia Wallace • Village Voice
“Undoing is a film of remarkably direct emotions.”
Rob Humanick • Slant Magazine
“The movie’s Korean-American re-imagining of film noir holds your attention. So do the sharp performances…the superb character actor Tom Bower in a diamond-hard yet intensely introspective performance.”
Mat Zoller Seitz • the NY Times
“Chris Chan Lee’s low-key noir UNDOING has cool in spades. UNDOING delivers it’s firepower with a silencer.”
• SF Bay Guardian
“Kang is quietly effective with his tall, hunky modesty…”
• SF Weekly
“A film that demands your attention… reminds you why you love cinema so much”
•Video Views
“A sleek neo-noir… impassioned and gains power and traction… attests to (Lee’s) talent and confidence”
• Los Angeles Times
“A film of discrete sensitivity and unusual emotional intelligence. Sincere, smart, and exceptionally well-cast and performed, the film clicks.”
• New York Sun
“Lee makes very interesting visual choices, and does a great job of integrating still imagery into his film… The editing of the dialogue works well, and he seems to be able to get solid performances out of his players.”
• Film Threat
“Chris Chan Lee’s independent production leaves a sense of wonder… The actors undertake their roles with a stirring amount of conviction, providing believable portrayals… Undoing visually achieves some surprisingly satisfying moments.”
